Government gripping farmers
Kapil Dave, Gandhinagar: The government facing the heavy opposition of farmers in several districts of the state has leaned towards acquiring land. The Gujarat government decided that by the year 2011, the price of Jantri will increase by 8% every year. Farmers were displeased and protested against the prices paid for land acquisition in different districts for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train Mega Project in the state.
Jantri prices rise
In addition to Bullet trains, the Dedicated Frite Corridor, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Special Investment Regions etc., the government is facing hurdles in acquiring jam for the mega project. Farmers are demanding more of their land. Against the opposition, the government has decided to increase the price of the Jantri to raise the market price. Apart from this, the government will also pay four-fold compensation. Apart from this, the fields which are coming in the urban development authority area have also fulfilled their demand to consider their land as urban land belt.
This new formula will give farmers 4 times the amount
In the urban development authority of the state's Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara sites, farmers got two times the current price of their land, which will now yield four times. "The state government's cabinet has approved the proposal of raising the Jantri price of the land on the basis of average annual valuation based on the year 2011," said a senior official with the information. This will increase the jantri price of the entire state by 60%.
Steps to silence protests for mega projects including bullet
So, according to this new formula, for the acquisition of farmer's land for the project, by adding 60% of the cost of the Jantri, the amount which will be given to the farmer will be given 4 times. With the increase in the compensation amount, we hope that farmers will give their land for the development project. The government hopes that this new formula will silence farmers' opposition.
